Silence and Prayer

In addition to the silence and prayer during our worship service, there is a special opportunity extend silence each Sunday before church from 10:00 to 10:15 AM.  The group meets in the Potter's House upper room (in the back and up the stairs).  Everyone is welcome whether for one visit or regularly.

2012 - 2013 Lectionary Scriptures

These are the scriptures from the Revised Common Lectionary for the 2012 - 2013 liturgical year.  Teachers and preachers at our services frequently base their sermons on the appropriate scriptures.  We use the Vanderbilt Divinity School website as our source.  (Where Vanderbilt gives a choice, we use the readings that give a similar theme to each of the four readings for the week.  There is another similar lectionary that gives the Old Testament scriptures in order of their appearance in the Old Testament.  In addition, Some of the readings have been slightly modified to fit on the page.)

There Is Another World

Good morning.

Ann Barnett asked me a few weeks ago if I had something to share with our church about dying. I wasn’t sure then that I did have something to share.

David Hilfiker had just shared his awareness of the life transition towards dying and eventual death he finds himself in now: big for him, big news for us all and to me, dare I say, “glorious” for the sense of awareness and wonder and something even deeper than acceptance – perhaps “welcome” – is the spirit I sense in David at a time when he is beginning to lose his life as he has always known it. Is that right? What manner of loss is this? A big part of David’s loss includes a deeper sense of wellbeing, if I understand him well, than almost ever before in his life. Wow. David shared his truth, and my fear of losing my mind, my fear of loss of control of my life, my fear of dying this way was lifted. A lot. Now I’m kind of curious. What might become possible for me when it’s my turn to lose the things that have defined me to myself and others all of my life? I’ve been giving this question a lot of thought.

McCorkle Spiritual Autobiography

On Sunday, March 10, at the Eighth Day members meeting after worship, Gerald McCorkle will share his spiritual autobiography as part of his preparation to become a covenant member of the faith community.  The spiritual autobiography is an important part of the membership process in which Gerald will tell the stories that have brought him to membership in the community, after which he will be formally accepted as a covenant member.

We invite all members of the worshipping community as well as Gerald's friends to join him and us for this special event.
